Why Fee Based?
or the difference between fee based advisors and commission based
brokers and other companies
We believe it is important for investors and for our clients to understand the difference
in motivations of fee based advisors and commission based companies (like
brokerage companies). You are welcome to discuss this with us.
To invest in securities (stocks or else) you will almost always need to use brokers who
will be custodians of your funds, will allow you to access the markets and will execute
orders for you. Brokers are motivated by commissions - the more trades they make
and the bigger the total volume of these trades the higher their revenue is. We think
investors should consider this fact carefully before looking for investment advice from
brokers in addition to simply execution services.
Fee only advisors like us are paid a set fee or a fee based on amount under
management. Our interests are motivated by the success of our clients in the
investment process. We are not paid by anyone else but our clients. We are not paid
by the brokers for bringing clients to them or any other reason. We do not get paid by
anyone (like securities issuers) to push any particular products. This helps us
concentrate on making decisions that benefit our clients.
